Sound and vibration data acquisition system

Sound and vibration products can be connected to microphones and accelerometers to capture acoustic and vibration signals. These products can be used for audio testing, machine condition monitoring, and noise, vibration, and acoustic vibration harshness (NVH) applications. Sound and vibration analysis software, including interactive, configuration-based software and Labview's analysis library, enables sound measurements, fractional octave analysis, frequency analysis, order analysis, and more. The graphical system design platform, which combines graphical programming software with modular, open hardware, redefines the way engineers develop and deploy solutions for sound and vibration measurement, thereby reducing development time and lowering system costs.

CompactRIO systems offer high processing performance, sensor-specific I/O, and tightly integrated software tools, making them ideal for industrial IoT, monitoring, and control applications. Real-time processors provide reliable, predictable behavior, while FPGAs excel at smaller tasks that require high-speed logic and precise timing. Build and deploy robust applications directly on CompactRIO controllers using integrated controllers and sensor I/O modules running Linux Real-Time OS; extract low-level code and use tools to build and deploy time-deterministic applications on CompactRIO systems using LabVIEW as well as real-time modules and FPGA modules; and integrate existing IP to take advantage of the user-programmable benefits of FPGAs so that high-quality data can be collected, processed in real-time and provided with feedback.

The solution uses one cRIO-9041 high-performance embedded controller, combined with two C series sound and vibration input modules NI-9234, and PS-15 power supply to form a sound and vibration data acquisition system. The NI-9234 module is connected to six accelerometers and two microphone sensors through shielded cables to collect signals.

II. NI 9234

The C-Series Sound and Vibration Input Module NI-9234 can measure signals from integrated electronic piezoelectric (IEPE) and non-IEPE sensors such as accelerometers, tachometers, and proximity probes. 4-channel, 51.2 kS/s/ch, ±5 V, the NI-9234 is also compatible with intelligent TEDS The NI-9234 offers a wide dynamic range with integrated software-selectable AC/DC coupling and IEPE signal conditioning. The input channels can be synchronized to measure signals. Each channel also has a built-in anti-alias filter that automatically adjusts to the sample rate. When used with NI software, the module provides processing functions for condition monitoring, such as frequency analysis and order tracking.

III. PS-15 Power Supply Module

The PS-15 power supply module is used to power CompactDAQ and CompactRIO systems, CompactRIO single board controllers, smart cameras, touch panel computers (TPCs), etc. 24 VDC to 28 VDC, 5 A, 120 W, DIN-rail mountable industrial power supplies that include DIN-rail mounting accessories for field connection and tool-free mounting spring clamp terminals. The PS-15 has an output power of 120 W and an operating temperature range of -25°C to +60°C. To meet region-specific power line requirements, the PS-15 has an input range of 100 VAC to 240 VAC. In addition, the industrial power supply responds to load fluctuations with a 20% power reserve, and this additional current can be used continuously at ambient temperatures below 45°C.

IV. Labview Software

Labview is an integrated development environment designed for engineers and researchers. labview is essentially a graphical programming language that uses a data flow model rather than sequential lines of text code, allowing you to code functions in a visual layout based on ideas. This means you can spend less time on statements and syntax, and more time on problem solving.

V. Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA)

FPGA devices are widely adopted by manufacturers of control and acquisition systems because of their performance, reconfigurability, small size, and low engineering development costs. Due to the complexity of electronic design tools, FPGA-based devices are typically defined by the vendor rather than the user.
